Only two items needed
Do you have a selfie stick and a tripod? Then you can make a holder for your phone to take pictures or record video; without needing to hold it.
Selfie sticks are great and can come in handy to take photos from a reasonably high perspective. Although, sometimes you want to take pictures or videos without holding either the phone or selfie stick.
With holding the selfie stick, look towards the top to find the adjustment wheel. Turn the wheel to loosen and remove the top portion.
The quick release camera mount attachment is located at the top of the tripod. Pull open the thumb lever on the tripod to remove this camera mount attachment.
Attach the camera mount attachment to the top portion of the selfie stick with the use of the screw. When doing this, verify that the top portion is aligned straight and not crocked. Tighten the screw and close the tab.
Return the camera mount attachment back to its place in the tripod. Close the thumb lever to hold it in place.

Now add your phone to the top portion and that is how you can make a phone holder using a tripod. Make any adjustments needed to get the best angle. You can take photos and videos either horizontally or vertically.
